GOVERNOR BROWN SIGNS REGISTRATION LAW
Governor has signed AB 2443 into law.
“This measure imposes an additional registration fee in specified amounts (not exceeding $20 per year) on vessels currently required to be registered with the Department of Boating and Waterways (DBW). Revenue from the fee would be used to specifically support quagga and zebra mussel prevention programs……..The measure also requires DBW to establish an advisory group to determine appropriate fee rates, adopt emergency regulations to collect fees, and administer grants awarded for quagga and zebra mussel infestation prevention activities”.
LAKE COUNTY CHAMBER NOTE: It appears that 4 years after Lake County implemented its own Quagga/Zebra Mussel Prevention Plan, the State of California has taken the threat seriously. The imposition of this additional registration fee on all California vessels will create awareness and concern throughout the State on the serious nature of the consequences these infestations mean to our vulnerable waterways, lakes, streams, etc.
